Artist Statement

Vron Harris’ practice is interested in the construction of film, the representation of time and the materiality of different media.  There’s an interest in the possibility of using still images to create a sense of movement and moving images to create a sense of stillness.  Beyond that, there is a curiosity of how this actually works: this sense of a still image, of a moment that ‘was now’ but has since past, and the possibility of the moving image to re-animate these stills into the illusion of life.  This allows an exploration of both the materiality and the illusion of the moving image and how these oppositions and tensions might relate and interact with one another.

The work is often inspired by human interactions as the initial source material and also often takes the form of a still life or a detailed study.  It is interested in both light and nature and in the passage of time, the seasons and the cycles of life.

Her work has been exhibited in galleries and online and published in books and DVDs.
